God, prayer, and… the White House?

God, prayer, and… the White House? In stark contrast with the Obama administration, Trump has ushered in an acceptance of evangelical Christianity that facilitates faith and prayer in the leadership of our country at a time that it was desperately needed.

Last Friday Vice President Mike Pence took to the 2018 Watchman on the Wall conference to
outline how the Trump administration has championed causes important to the evangelical community and implored them to continue to, “share the good news of Jesus Christ.”

“Keep preaching the good news. Keep preaching in season and out of season as the Bible says. Always be prepared to give a reason for the hope that you have,” he continued.

He continued in his encouragement, saying that other than Gold star military families, those who pray and minister the Gospel “are the greatest consequence in the life of a nation.”

“Other than the service of those who wear the uniform of the United States especially our cherished fallen, the ministries that you lead and the prayers that you pray are the greatest consequence in the life of the nation,” he explained.

The Bible asks us to be faithful in prayer in Romans 12:12  “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”

Pence says there is prayer going on inside the White House all the time, not only on the National Day of Prayer.

During the National Day of Prayer, both the President and Vice President emphasized the vitality prayer brings to the White House. In an interview with CBN, Pence elaborated on just how often prayer takes place saying,

“There’s prayer going on on a regular basis in this White House. And it’s one of the most meaningful things to me, whether it’s public meetings or not, I’ve lost count of the number of times that the president has nudged me, or nudged another member of the Cabinet and said, ‘Let’s start this meeting with prayer.'”

President Trump restated the importance of faith in the White House saying in his remarks on National Prayer Day,

“The prayers of religious believers helped gain our independence, and the prayers of religious leaders like the Reverend Martin Luther King — great man — helped win the long struggle for civil rights.  Faith has shaped our families, and it’s shaped our communities.  It’s inspired our commitment to charity and our defense of liberty.  And faith has forged the identity and the destiny of this great nation that we all love.”

It was during his remarks on the National Day of Prayer that he revealed his plan to create the faith initiative to design new policies that “recognize the vital role of faith in our families, our communities, and our great country.”

With the current administration putting such an emphasis on faith, our nation will see renewed life and abundance according to 2 Chronicles 7:14 which says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
