Gov. Newsom mandates COVID shots for schools, but his 12-year-old daughter remains jab-free

SACRAMENTO (LifeSiteNews) — California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom has not yet had his own daughter vaccinated for COVID-19, despite moving to make it mandatory for all other K-12 students in the state.

On October 1, Newsom announced a vaccine mandate for in-person learning at public and private schools alike in California, which will take effect the semester following formal approval of the COVID-19 vaccines for younger age groups by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), starting with grades 7 through 12, and followed by kindergarten through grade 6. He claimed there would be “rare” exemptions for religious or medical reasons.

But the Los Angeles Times reports that Newsom has admitted that “his own daughter, who recently turned 12 years old and is eligible for the vaccine, has not yet received it because she has ‘a series of other shots’ to get first.” 

Newsom, who survived a grassroots recall effort last month, claimed this was consistent with the mandate’s allowance of “adequacy not only in notice, but opportunity to meet with their primary care physicians or school nurses” to alleviate “existing anxieties.”
