Description:

Four structures were struck by lightning and 12,000 people are without power in Douglas County as a result Sunday's severe weather event, according to Douglas County Emergency Management and NV Energy. According to NV Energy officials, the extensive power outages are due to weather related issues including, hail, wind, and lightning strikes. NV Energy says they are working to repair the damage and will have crews on scene throughout the evening. There is no estimated time for when power will be restored at this time. According to a post made on Douglas County's official Facebook page, board members were advised of the conditions in each area of the county impacted by the event. The structures hit by lightning strikes were damaged and East Fork Fire responders were able to extinguish those fires and other small ground fires that started as a result of the lightning. According to Douglas County Emergency Management, flooding is extensive in the areas of Johnson Lane, Indian Hills, and Fish Springs. County officials are continuing to access the damage to public facilities, infrastructure and roadways and debris clean up is being conducted on a priority basis. The post goes on to say: "The Board Commissioners is monitoring the situation and is being briefed on a regular basis. Based on the initial assessment, Emergency Management officials for Douglas County and the County Commission have not declared an emergency. Area residents with questions regarding localized flooding, road and/or street damage, are urged to contract Douglas County or the appropriate General Improvement District(s). Officials are monitoring anticipated weather for Monday. We will continue to keep you updated. We do not have any information about the power outage at this time."
