The United States stands for Christians where The United Nations will not. Over the last several years droves of Christians have been killed or displaced by Islamic militants in the Middle East, systemically the United Nations has failed them.
Mike Pence, the Vice President and the former Governor of Indiana, during a speech for the persecuted church, unveiled plans for the United States to provide more direct aid to Christians and other minorities facing genocide in the Middle East.
Approximately 1.4 million Christians lived in the Middle East prior to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, now, barely 250,000 populate the region. Most of the Christians living in the Middle East, the roughly 250,000, have been displaced and are living as refugees. Meaning that the Christians are mainly relocated to Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey, where they have no resettlement rights.
Pence recently stated while giving the keynote address at an annual solidarity dinner sponsored by the international advocacy organization In Defense of Christians; “The United Nations has too often failed to help the most vulnerable communities, especially religious minorities. The result has been that countless people continue to suffer and struggle needlessly.”
“We will no longer rely on the United Nations alone to assist persecuted Christians and minorities in the wake of genocide and the atrocities of terrorist groups,”

This is the moment, now is the time, and America will support these people in their hour of need.” Pence further exclaimed.
The United States has previously committed millions of dollars to the United Nations specifically for aiding those Christians in that region, but the UN has failed catastrophically. What Pence proclaimed in entirety is that President Donald Trump has ordered the State Department to enable U.S. aid funding to go directly to faith-based organizations, a move which Iraqi Christians have been begging for.
“Our fellow Christians and all who are persecuted in the Middle East should not have to rely on multinational institutions when America can help them directly,” Pence assured. “And tonight, it is my privilege to announce that President Trump has ordered the State Department to stop funding ineffective relief efforts at the United Nations. And from this day forward, America will provide support directly to persecuted communities through [the United States Aid Agency.]”
Pence’s announcement was met with a 25-second applause.
