Rand Paul described the scene on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that he heard as many as 50 shots. Paul described seeing shots land near aides who had taken cover on the ground.

One staffer, he said, scrambled over a fence to get away from the fire. Paul credited Capitol Police, who were there to protect Scalise, with saving lives. Two Capitol Police officers on protective detail were also reportedly shot in the incident.

The “multiple shooting” was reported in the 400 block of E. Monroe Street in Alexandria, Va., according to police.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) is in stable condition after being shot on the scene.

The suspect is believed to be in custody, but at least five people have been shot.

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.)said Scalise was shot in the hip and was “dragging his body” to get away from the shooter.

Brooks also described the shooter as a white male, but he only saw the shooter for a fraction of a second.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said both President Trump and Vice President Pence are aware of the “developing situation in Virginia.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected,” he tweeted.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise was reportedly shot at a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria Virginia on Wednesday morning.

Reports say Scalise was shot in the hip and is expected to be okay, in addition, two staffers and Capitol police officers were also wounded.

GOP Representative Mo Brooks was at the practice and said he heard around 50 shots fired from a semi-automatic rifle.

Rep. Mark Walker told NBC News that appeared as though the gunman was there to kill as many Republicans as possible. Just before the shooting Ron Desantis recounted an odd encounter he had as he was leaving the field just minutes before the shooting; “there was a guy that walked up to us and was asking whether it was Republicans or Democrats out there” Desantis told Fox News.

Trump tweeted following the incident; “Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana, a true friend, and patriot was badly injured but will fully recover. Our thoughts and prayers are with him.”

A Michigan representative who survived a gun attack during the baseball practice Wednesday morning in Virginia stated they were sitting ducks.

“As we were standing here this morning, a gunman walked up to the fence line and just began to shoot I was standing at Homeplate, and he was in the third base line” Michigan Representative Michael Bishop stated.

“The only reason why any of us walked out of this thing, by the grace of God, one of the folks here had a weapon to fire back and give us a moment to find cover, we were inside the backstop and if we didn’t have that covered by a brave person who stood up and took a shot themselves we would not have gone gotten out of there and everyone of us would’ve been hit every single one of us” said Bishop.

Being that we live in a civilized society, the question must come up just how could this happen? The answer is because of the rhetoric that is constantly and consistently pushed by mainstream liberal media which has led to civil war level division in the current state of America.

The very reality that the gunman, in this particular case, walked up to the baseball field and asked the question, “if those practicing are republican or democrat” goes to show the current ‘state of the union.’
