Planned Parenthood Sued The Trump Administration Over Abstinence Approach To Sex Education

Planned Parenthood last week filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over their approach to Sex Education.

The Department of Health and Human Services under the Trump Administration is guiding young children through education towards healthy lifestyle choices and abstinence.

However, according to the Lawsuit filed by Planned Parenthood, the Department of Health and Human Services’ approach is ‘ineffective’ and ‘misleading’ for children. Instead, Planned Parenthood is arguing that children must learn about topics such as LGBT sex education, abortion, and the morning-after pill.

Planned Parenthood is claiming that the changes made to the programs funding guidance are ‘unlawful.’ Also, Planned Parenthood is stating that the change is also a pretext for the eventual elimination of the program.

“The lawsuit seeks to protect the future of the TPP program,” Planned Parenthood said in a statement. “If successful, the lawsuit will ensure that the TPP program maintains its evidence-based principles and that new grantees are not forced to push dangerous (abstinence-only-until-marriage) curriculums.”
